Robot Rebels Demo
February 18 – 19:00 – 21:30
Robot Rebels is an easy-to-learn, fast-paced, miniature-agnostic skirmish game designed to capture the dynamism of mecha battles as depicted in Japanese anime such as Mobile Suit Gundam, Evangelion, Macross, and The Vision of Escaflowne. After assembling a few 1/144 scale Gundam model kits (as detailed in the next section), I started looking for a rule system that would let me use these models for skirmish games. However, despite exploring many options, I couldn’t find a system that delivered the thrilling experience I wanted.
Most games I found were overly complex, with extensive rules, countless options, or cumbersome army lists. They often required a significant amount of time to create warbands, relying on overly detailed mecha-building systems. Like many adult gamers, I have limited time to dedicate to my hobby, so I needed something that allowed for quick preparation and gameplay.
Frustrated by the lack of suitable options, my daughter and I decided to create our own system. Our goal was to design a game that could be quickly learned but still offered deep tactical gameplay, making it enjoyable for both newcomers and experienced players. We also wanted a system that keeps both players actively engaged throughout the game. Most importantly, we aimed to create a game that lets players use their mecha models and have fun!
